Llamando al mago (Calling the Magician) (2017), is a video-performance involving the calling up of multiple short videos and generating others live (such as internet calls and ‘image sonifications’). The immediate context of the work is the Venezuelan passport crisis (effecting Venezuelans since 2016), which interrupted our working process and informed the format of presentation as we composed a series of ‘video posters’ and sent them to each other in response to the impossibility of being in the same place. The work names a 'crisis of presentation' and reflects on the contradictions of the hyper-circulation and hyper-translatability of images in a context in which the freedom of movement and right to settle is increasingly restricted.
